It's London and the year is 2027 and for some unknown reason women are infertile. This is what the entire movie is based on but there was not much explanation as to why. Theo played by Clive Owen is a middle-aged man who has lost passion for life after a lost child and failed marriage several years back. He was once the polar opposite being a very passionate human rights activist who had an incredible hunger for life. Before he has a chance to even grasp what is going on, he is caught in the middle of the world's newest miracle - a pregnant woman. He has been entrusted with the safety and transport of this young woman to the "Human Life Project".
The filming of the movie was excellent and there were several moments throughout it that you felt like you were right there with the characters. This film had a dark and cold feel. It seemed as though the world was in turmoil facing extinction and people had no reason for hope. Even though Theo seemed to be very sad and lifeless for some reason people & animals were drawn to him in several scenes. Unknowingly to himself these other people saw him as a helper and he gave them a sense of security. The only other well known actor in the movie was Julianne Moore who played Owen's ex-wife and was the leader of the "terrorist group" called the "Freedom Fighters" aka "fish".
Throughout the movie, Theo and Ki (the pregnant woman) had to go from one bad situation to the next while on the way to meet the "Human Life Project". They were caught in the middle of a civil war not only in Great Britian but the entire world. Besides the infertility it was not hard to buy into the futuristic setting. There were no flying cars or robots running around. There was some technology that had advanced to help the viewers feel like they were in the future.
On a five star rating scale, I would give this movie a 3 1/2 stars. I would not recommend it for children due to some spotty violence and bad language. The plot was definitely an original thought but I was not thrilled with the ending. That's my opinion but I'll let you judge for yourselves.
